Welcome to the Africa Water Investment Pipeline, a strategic portfolio of over 80 transformative water and climate-resilient infrastructure projects from across the African continent.
This pipeline will be showcased during the 2025 AU- AIP Africa Water Investment Summit in Cape Town, serving as a launchpad for investment, partnerships, and progress.
The pipeline represents a diverse and dynamic portfolio with a total project cost exceeding USD 30 billion. The projects span all stages of development, from early concept to those already under construction. The initiatives cover a wide range of subsectors including water supply and sanitation, multipurpose infrastructure, flood management, early warning systems, aquaculture, integrated water resources management (IWRM), nature-based solutions, traditional knowledge and conflict management, energy and energy efficiency, and water transport. This platform not only provides visibility for these projects, but also facilitates structured engagement opportunities for investors and partners to connect with project owners.
This marks the beginning of a long-term investment journey, with select high-impact projects set to be fast-tracked for presentation at other similar platforms. A second AU, AIP Water Investment Summit will be held in 2027/2028 to assess progress and spotlight new flagship projects. This rolling pipeline is fully aligned with the Africa Water Investment Action Plan and the AIP Framework, with a clear focus on delivering impact through 2030.

Community-anchored approach: Deep engagement with local leaders, youth, and women ensures cultural legitimacy and ownership.
Interdisciplinary methodology: Combines anthropology, environmental science, and indigenous knowledge for integrated problem-solving.
Transboundary relevance: Designed as a replicable model for cross-border cooperation between Chad and Cameroon.
Innovation rooted in tradition: Blends ancestral ecological practices with low-tech, climate-resilient innovations (e.g., floating fish farms, agroecology).
Strong narrative and communication strategy: Uses multimedia (documentary, podcasts, exhibitions) to amplify local voices and reach diverse audiences.
Peace and conflict resolution embedded: Reinforces customary mediation mechanisms and prevents water-related conflicts through inclusive governance. Scalability and adaptability: Structured for regional expansion and adaptable to similar socio-ecological contexts across the Sahel and Central Africa.
