The AIP will participate in various events during COP16, Riyadh, the largest-ever meeting of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification’s 197 Parties.
One Water Summit
The AIP will participate in the One Water Summit on the sidelines of COP16. The One Water Summit is a high-level summit on water co-organized by France, Kazakhstan and the World Bank, in partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The ambition of the One Water Summit is to promote impactful action in the water sector by stimulating partnerships between governments, international organizations, local authorities, development and private banks, businesses, philanthropies, experts, NGOs and civil society, in line with previous One Planet summits. The summit is an important intergovernmental milestone on the road to the UN 2026 Water Conference in December 2026.
The AIP participated in a follow-up from engagements in the United Nations 2023 Water Conference, the United Nations General Assembly 2024, Stockholm Water Week 2024, and Africa Water Week 2024 to mobilize partners towards the proposed Africa Investment Summit 2024.
WWF and BCG One Water Solutions Lab
Hosted by World Wildlife Fund and the Boston Consulting Group, the One Water Summit Solutions Lab will explore innovative ways to address global water issues. Organised on the sidelines of the One Water Summit and UNCCD COP16, the Solutions Lab brings together thought leaders, experts, implementing organisations and funders to discuss a series of ambitious water initiatives that have the potential to deliver transformational impact for people, nature and climate.
The AIP is one of 5 initiatives that will be presented.

ICESCO Session: Financing the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem nexus to combat desertification, drought and land degradation
The AIP will participate in the session “Financing the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem nexus to combat desertification, drought and land degradation” with the objective to propose a new ambition for all stakeholders to combat desertification, drought and land degradation in arid and semi-arid regions including the Mediterranean through the water – energy – food and ecosystem nexus approach.
The event is co-hosted by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), and Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
