The AIP will be convening and participating in various sessions during the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, 20-25 May with the goal of mobilising political support and resources towards water security and climate-resilient sanitation for Africa.

Special Session on Mobilizing Political Commitment for Accelerating Climate Resilient Water Investments in Africa

The AIP and the International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa will be supporting the African Union Commission in convening a special session on the topic of mobilising political commitment for accelerating climate-resilient water investments in Africa.

During the session, findings of the Africa’s Rising Investment Tide Report and Africa’s Water Investment Action Plan will be presented. Examples of investment opportunities, programmes, and projects from AU Member States will be showcased. Perspectives on accelerating blended climate-resilient water investments in Africa and opportunities for partnerships will be showcased.

Thematic Process on Reform of Global Financial Water Architecture

20 May | 3:40 – 5:10 PM local Indonesian time | PMBNDCC 1, KINTAMANI 7  

AIP CEO Alex Simalabwi wil be discussing the importance of reforming water finance and investment systems so that more funding and investments may be directed towards Africa water security and sustainable sanitation.

Regional session on Strengthening governance and institutions for enhanced cooperation in the management of shared water resources

This joint AMCOW – UNDP session will leverage partnerships and other transboundary cooperation arrangements to support the management of shared water resources. It will also enhance transboundary cooperation, joint planning, investments and development. AIP secretariat programme experts Andrew Takawira and Dr Eddie Riddell will address this session. 

Side Event on Climate Finance for greater water resource resilience in Africa organized by the Sahara & Sahel Observatory

22 May | 9:20 – 10:50 AM Local Indonesian time | BNDCC 1, KINTAMANI 1 

This side event aims to catalyze a substantive discourse, grounded in a comprehensive analysis of the repercussions of climate change on water resources in Africa. It seeks to advocate for the central role that climate finance can play in aiding populations to adapt to these impacts, particularly in addressing disparities in water availability, escalating water stress, and deteriorating water quality.

Panel Discussion on Innovative financing and resource mobilization for climate resilient water and sanitation investments

Organized by the African Development Bank and African Water Facility, this session aims to galvanize actors to action to address these challenges through a constructive discussion with key proponents on how to close the Financing Gap, including via the use of innovative finance on downstream financing.

Interactive dialogue on Water for Climate, Resilience and Environment of the 2023 UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Water Action Decade

A representative from the AIP will join panelists to discuss how to transform water management as the impacts of climate change are becoming more obvious.
