Ministerial Breakfast Interactive Consultation on Mobilising Commitments towards the African Union Water Investment Summit 2025

Convened by the Republic of South Africa, in collaboration with the Republic of Senegal and the AU-AIP International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa, the High-Level Ministerial Breakfast Interactive Consultation will take place on the margins of the Africa Water Week 2024 in Cairo, Egypt. The purpose of the session will be to:
- To provide an update to African water ministers on the chief outcomes emerging from the United Nations General Assembly 2024 related to the AU Water Investment Summit in 2025, within the context of South Africa’s G20 Presidency;
- To mobilise commitment amongst African water ministers and seek input towards convening an AU Water Investment Summit in 2025, within the context of South Africa’s G20 Presidency;
- To outline a roadmap towards the AU Water Investment Summit in 2025.
The AU Africa Water Investment Summit will support the AU and AIP High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa to mobilise resources towards the goal of an additional US$30 billion per year by 2030. The outcomes of the AU Water Investment Summit 2025 will contribute to the UN 2026 Water Conference to be co-hosted by the Republic of Senegal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The AU Water Investment Summit 2025 will build on the White Paper Water track of the G20, initiated and led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during their G20 Presidency in 2020 and proceeded with the momentum through the G20 Presidency of France, India, Indonesia and now Brazil.
