
Pan-African Regional Consultation on African Union guidelines for National Climate-Resilient Water Investments Programmes

The African Union Commission, in partnership with the International High-level Panel on Water Investments for Africa and the EU-Blue Africa Initiative, implemented by GIZ, has organised a virtual regional stakeholder consultation on Guidelines for the development of National Climate Resilient Water Investments Programmes.

The consultation will seek input from stakeholders on the draft guidelines and get their perspectives, gather insights from financial institutions, multilateral development banks, and other funding agencies regarding their expectations for the guidelines, and share the roadmap for implementation of the guidelines across African countries.
The meeting will bring together participants from AU Member States, including ministries responsible for water and sanitation, ministries of finance, and GCF National Designated Authorities, as well as representatives from Regional Economic Communities (RECs), AMCOW, AUDA-NEPAD, regional and international development partners, the AIP Secretariat (GWP Africa), and the African Union Commission (AUC).

The workshop has been organized under the AU-AIP Multi-country Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Initiative, which aims to enhance the capacities of AU Member States for climate-resilient water investment planning and project preparation. The guidelines will be used by AU member states, including the 15 countries that are participating in the GCF Readiness Initiative, namely; Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Eswatini, Ghana, Guinea, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tunisia, and Zambia develop their national climate-resilient water investment programmes which among others will outline the countries’ pipeline projects.
The countries will have an opportunity to showcase the pipelines at the upcoming AU-AIP Water Investment Summit to be convened by South Africa, in partnership with the AUC and the High-level Panel on Water Investments for Africa, in the context of South Africa’s G20 presidency. The Summit will be held on July 18th, 2025.
