8th PIDA Week 2024, Addis Ababa
14:00-15:00 EAT, Tuesday, 26 November 2024
Organised by the World Bank Group and the International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa, this high-level session will explore ways to accelerate investments in PIDA-PAP 2 water projects to implement the African Union Water Investments Action Plan 2023.
The session will explore both national initiatives and regional frameworks, such as the AU’s High-Level Panel Africa Water Investment Action Plan, PIDA water projects by river basin organizations and other transboundary regional initiatives that support cross-border water management with the view to accelerating investment in PIDA transboundary water projects. The session will examine how limited fiscal and ODA funding may be used to derisk transboundary water investments and to leverage larger sources of private sector financing.
The session will also update on progress on implementing the recommendations of the AU-AIP High-Level Panel on Water Investment for Africa in mobilising an additional US$30bn/year by 2030 towards climate-resilient water security and sustainable sanitation; and showcase examples of progress on investments in climate-resilient water security and sustainable sanitation including the development of national water investment programmes by AU Member States.
