Events
The Events section serves as a hub for sharing and accessing key engagements on climate finance and water security. It provides updates on upcoming events, including webinars, conferences, and workshops, allowing stakeholders to participate in real-time discussions and networking opportunities. Additionally, it acts as a repository for past events, offering access to recordings, summaries, and key outcomes to ensure continuous learning and knowledge exchange.

Kick-off workshop of the AU-AIP Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Support Initiative, Nairobi, Kenya
The workshop held from 6 to 7 December, co-hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Global Water Partnership Africa (GWP Africa), the project’s delivery partner, sought to establish a shared understanding of the program’s implementation and coordination mechanisms. The workshop was funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) as part of the AU AIP Multi-Country GCF Readiness project.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to the GCF Programming and its Readiness Support Program, and to the AU AIP Multi-Country GCF Readiness Initiative. They were also introduced to the priority activities of countries under each GCF Readiness objective and introduced to the Conceptual Framework of a Continental Knowledge and Investment Platform, to which they were able to contribute on its functionalities. They also brainstormed cross-cutting challenges and solutions to improve their countries’ capacities to access climate finance.

Training on AU Guidelines for the development of National Climate Resilient Water Investment Programmes, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Over 70 representatives from fifteen African Union Member States gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from the 13 – 14 February 2025 for a training on AU Guidelines for the development of National Climate Resilient Water Investment Programmes.
The training was part of the build-up to the 2025 AU-AIP Water Investment Summit which South Africa will host in the context of the G20 Presidency, and the 2026 UN Water Conference to be co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal.
Hon. Pemmy Majodina, Minister of Water and Sanitation for South Africa, officially opened the workshop, calling for increased investments in water infrastructure across Africa, as well as increased recognition and attention to water in global processes.
The guidelines will be used by the 15 AU member states to develop their national climate-resilient water investment programmes which among others will outline the countries’ pipeline projects, which they will showcase during the AU-AIP Water Investment Summit.

Training on National Water Investment Programming in Africa, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Water and climate stakeholders convened for the 2025 Pan-African Transboundary Dialogue and Training on National Water Investment Programming in Africa from 28th to 29th April 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in a bid to strengthen synergies between transboundary and national water investment priorities.
The Dialogue and Training were organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It brought together basin organisations, national water authorities, and development partners.
The event was supported by the AU AIP Multi-country GCF Readiness Support Programme, the Blue Africa Transboundary Water Management Action which is financed by the European Union and the German Technical Cooperation (GiZ); and the Global Environment Facility’s International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network (GEF IW: LEARN).
