Continental Knowledge Platform
Training
The AU-AIP Multicounty GCF Readiness Initiative is engaging all participating countries in a comprehensive continental and national training programme aimed at strengthening the capacities of National Designated Authorities (NDAs) and key water sector stakeholders. The training aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to support the development of high-quality Green Climate Fund (GCF) proposals and concept notes, addressing a capacity gap that all participating countries have identified to varying degrees. Recognising the importance of sustained learning, the programme responds to NDAs’ call for continuous capacity development in this area.
Targeted at priority stakeholders in each country, the training will focus on climate finance opportunities through the GCF, guided by an assessment of residual training needs and informed by the GCF Water Sector Guide and GCF Programming Guide. This tailored approach will ensure that stakeholders are well-positioned to integrate sector-specific guidance into project preparation and delivery.
In addition, the programme extends sensitisation and training to the private sector, women, youth, indigenous peoples, and civil society organisations, enabling them to effectively mainstream climate change adaptation into their planning processes. Nominated entities are also benefiting from dedicated training and capacity development, while Direct Access Entities (DAEs) are receiving targeted support aligned with their specific capacity needs, ensuring that each is better equipped to navigate the GCF project cycle and mobilise climate finance for resilient water investments.
